Myofascial Release (MFR)
John F. Barnes Approach
Our Fascial system is an intricate web of connective tissue that covers and passes through every area of our body. When injured or restricted, it can put tremendous pressure on pain sensitive structures, often time causing pain in areas remote from the area of injury.
Myofascial Release is an effective technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to decrease or eliminate pain and restore motion. Don't let the gentleness fool you. Myofascial Release can have profound effects on the body. Therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which the therapist uses a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy. A home treatment program is promoted through education in proper body mechanics, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.
Each MFR session will begin with a brief evaluation & postural assessment Patients are asked to bring loose fitting clothing to wear during their session. Treatment is performed directly on skin without oils or creams. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.
